Raising awareness of different career paths and highlighting colleague experiences
Greater Anglia has produced a bespoke newspaper to share stories about the organisation in a simple, engaging way with people across the East of England.
The newspaper was distributed to 20 stores, with 500 copies per store, reaching a total circulation of 10,000 copies. It was designed to bring people stories, career opportunities, and inclusion work directly into busy, public-facing environments where potential candidates and the wider community can easily access it.
The content focused on providing a real insight into what it is like to work at Greater Anglia. It included information on company benefits, along with testimonials from colleagues involved in the organisation’s four employee network groups: Up (gender), Culture (ethnicity & heritage), Affinity (LGBTQ+ pride), and Ability (disability & carers). These testimonials helped bring to life the importance of inclusion and belonging across the organisation.
Greater Anglia also featured “day in the life” stories from frontline colleagues working in revenue protection and Automatic Ticket Gate (ATG) roles, giving a clear picture of these essential customer-facing positions. In addition, stories from women train drivers were included to help encourage more interest in driving roles and highlight the diversity of the workforce ahead of driver vacancy recruitment.
A two-page feature written by industrial placement students showcased the value of Greater Anglia’s early careers programmes and the opportunities available to those starting out in the industry. As part of this, the students were given ownership of their content, including having their names credited on their pages. This provided them with valuable, real-world experience of contributing to a published external-facing communication piece, helping to build confidence, accountability, and practical skills as part of Greater Anglia’s approach to nurturing early talent.
Overall, the bespoke newspaper has been an effective way to share authentic voices from across Greater Anglia, raise awareness of different career paths, and highlight the work being done around inclusion and development.
